Without digging deeper into your problem, let me show you somthing which can solve a bigger poblem.

I recommend using https://github.com/vladgolubev/aws-lambda-libreoffice library now. It manages all the hussle around tars under the hood, has much smaller package size (85 MB) and doesn’t impact your S3 cost from frequent downloads.
